10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Ava Schwartz – Saturday, September 14, 2024

Ava Schwartz will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, September 14, at 10:00 a.m.

Ava is an eighth grader at The Alexander Dawson School. This is Ava’s fourth year as a cheerleader for her school team. She has competed as a cheerleader in state and national championships. Ava is also passionate about water skiing and other activities that she participates in at Trip Lake Camp, a summer camp in Poland, Maine.

Ava has shown dedication and commitment in preparing for the privilege and responsibility that come with becoming a Bat Mitzvah. For her Bat Mitzvah project, Ava chose to volunteer at Jewish Family Services (JFS). JFS is a charity that provides financial assistance, mental health services, and elder care to individuals and families in need of such services. JFS was formed in 1918 by the “Jolly Sixteen,” a group of 16 women committed to making a difference in people’s lives.  For many years, JFS provided aid to Jewish immigrants and refugees, including Holocaust survivors, in the form of food, clothing, shelter, and other essential services. Today, JFS is committed to serving all people, regardless of religion or ethnicity. Ava’s involvement with JFS reflects her commitment to the Jewish values of kindness, compassion, and Tikkun Olam—repairing the world.
