It is with enormous joy that we share the news that Josie became a Bat Mitzvah over the summer! Josie’s service was held in July at URJ Camp Harlam, a Reform Jewish sleepaway camp in Pennsylvania that she has been attending since third grade. The pines of the Poconos served as a beautiful sanctuary for the occasion. Her parents, Alison and Matthew, and her younger brother Rhodes were bursting with pride as Josie chanted her Torah portion Chukat, recited her prayers, and delivered her D’var Torah for the assembled campers and staff.
Josie’s Bat Mitzvah project was a personally meaningful initiative to support the special needs program at her camp. Through emails, texts, and calls (to everyone she’s ever known) Josie shared her passion for camp and her desire to make it accessible for ALL youth, regardless of their developmental differences. Her persistence and persuasiveness are paying off. To date, Josie has raised $9,199.83! Her goal is to raise $10,000 by the year’s end. Please join us at Shabbat services on Friday, September 13 (Greatest Hits Shabbat) to learn more about Josie’s Mitzvah project and how you can help Jewish youth with special needs experience the joy of camp.
The CNT community has nurtured Josie’s connection to Judaism and has strengthened her commitment to Mitzvot and Tikkun Olam. Our family is grateful to the Clergy, staff, and Congregants for their positive influence and guidance in helping Josie reach this sacred milestone.
