Veronica Newman – Saturday, June 8, 2024

         Veronica Newman will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, June 8, at 10:00 a.m., at Congregation Ner Tamid. Veronica is a 7^th grader at Las Vegas Day School. Her extracurricular activities include playing piano and running on her school’s Track and Field Team, but her passion is reading and writing. Veronica is consistently awarded for receiving the most Accelerated Reader (AR) points of all students in her school and this year her short story was awarded second place in the school-wide writing competition. She has an older sister, Sophia, who has remained active at CNT since her Bat Mitzvah, two younger sisters who attend religious school at CNT, and a baby brother. 

         Veronica’s Bat Mitzvah project involves increasing awareness of Type 1 Diabetes and raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). JDRF is a nonprofit organization that funds Type 1 diabetes research and services to help keep the Type 1 diabetes population healthy and safe until a cure is discovered. This is an important and personal cause for Veronica, not only because curing this disease would benefit so many people, particularly children, but also because Veronica has lived with Type 1 diabetes since she was just three years old.
